Getting new grips on your clubs is a great idea, I assume you have decided to take some lessons and continue to practice with you older clubs until you feel good enough to have a new set. Good for you.

New grips will really help, if your old ones are worn the you will grip the club tighter and therfore swing worse, new grips will give you a feeling that your holding the club lightly but firmly. A new glove will help too, go for a leather one.

I change my grips every 18 month or so and have a new glove every couple of months.
