I have exactley the same thing as you, when i swing slow i will rareley miss a fairway and usually hit a respectable 230 / 260 yrds and as you say I too do not feel any coiling.
any time that I speed up I lose distance, and people who I play golf with who dont know me are amazed at my tempo they always say my swing looks so good. but as all us golfers cannot help trying to get a little xtra distance, then my swing will fall apart, so I suppose its true to say that tempo is absoluteley key to a good repeating swing, I have a post on here to all the big hitters have a look there is some good feedback.
