That was my guess too.

If you throw a ball or stone, using an athletic action, you will find that your weight is on teh front foot, your hips are forward, but your head has not moved. This causes your spine to have a backwards lean - this is normal and all the good players do it.

But, if you are falling back after hitting the ball, you are not getting a weight transfer to your front foot. You can hit the ball like this, but results will be inconsistent.

Maybe a Gary Player type walk through swing would help, at least as a drill?
