Many people find hybrids much easier to hit off the fairway than the comparable fairway wood. This is most likely due to the smaller, heavier head and the (relatively) shorter shaft. They frequently produce better contact and also reduce flat-out duffs. A properly struck hybrid will likely go further than an improperly struck fairway wood. (Yes, I realize this is stating the obvious!
