Hi Thimble,
There should be a difference between the way you setup for a 150 yard shot and a 100 yard shot. You will be making a full swing on the first and a pitch on the later. It is important to set your ball and body position to ensure your swing is working in harmony with the club in use and the type of shot required.
I always place the ball in line with my left armpit with my left heel around 2 inches left of that (no matter what the club), this gives a solid reference point for the swing. A golf swing will bottom out in line with your sternum (Chest bone) so you must ensure your sternum is placed correctly in relation to the ball and your stance is at the correct width, by moving your right foot towards or away from your left.
For the 150 yard shot (7iron ish) place the ball as previous then lean your sternum just slightly ahead of the ball, set your right foot around 1 Ft from your left. You will very slightly favour your weight on the left foot. Now make your normal full swing ensuring you are hitting down into the back of the ball.
For the 100 yard shot (PW) carry out the same routine but with your sternum slightly further forward and your right foot around 8 inches from your left. Make your normal pitching swing, again hitting down into the ball.
I hope this helps.
