what greg and shootin are saying is technically correct but check out the "looking at the hole while putting" thread.
i too like you was abysmal at putting till i tried that method and for me it has transformed my game if im 25ft from the hole on the fringe im confident of having an easy 2nd putt.
i havent had a 3 putt since using this method!
