| Re: how far? Wow - I don't know how I lost this thread for so long.
As has been posted - a 73 mph swing speed cannot produce 220 yards without rock-hard fairways and about 70 yards of roll.
Now, 100 mph with a level AoA and a 10° driver puts him nicely in the 220 carry range.
Liam, I hear it all the time about how I should be hitting it further - and I'm a grown man (well, overgrown, but that's another story).
msklar- yes, you're referring to smash factor - the ratio of ball speed to clubhead (swing) speed. Most amateur golfers have a smash factor of less than 1.3. Most good amateurs (single digit cappers) have a factor somewhere between 1.3 and 1.5. Virtually all pros have a smash factor of 1.5 or better. But IIRC, it's tough to get beyond 1.5. Bubba has a smash factor of 1.63, but has crazy clubhead speed, and tees the ball a) way up in the air, and b) way forward in his stance.
More importantly than how far should you hit it is how far do you hit it? Knowing your distances will help you score better (but playing driver-3 wood-mid-iron is tough!)

PCS Class 'A' Clubfitter A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor. |
