Ben, as I posted in my original reply to Slats I had an absolute mare last week, so much so that I might have taken your five good shots with some measure of gratitude

I'm wondering if you and I have a similar problem: that is that we want the improvement too much.

In my case I suspect that this manifests itself in looking for too much control - which I can get away with a wedge but with the bigger sticks means that I tense up and I never fully complete the backswing / turn which I believe is the prime cause of my duck / snap hook.

The other day I came across Squeaky Medlin's words to Daly when caddying his break through PGA - "Kill John, Kill the ball".

I'm no John Daly but I went to the range this morning with the sole aim of forgetting control, positions, technique - at least with a big stick; I just swung the club back, an overswing to my normal way of thinking, and whipped it forward - OK I might have been "directionally challenged" at times but the ball didn't half fly.

The desire to do well might cause you different problems but it might be worth a session or two NOT TRYING - I'm certainly going to give it a whirl.

From one frustrated hacker to another - Good Luck
