Re: Ah, to Golf... Matt10's Journal

Okay, finally got to play this past Saturday at my home course, Overland Park GC - a fun and challenging par 70 course.

I struggled early with my driving, hooking most of the balls (except the first tee shot on the first hole of course!) and continued to do so with my irons. Eventually I figured out that my takeaway was the culprit, I was starting way too outside of my takeaway plane - a good reminder that helped me keep the shots straight was to just move my left arm straight back on all shots.

Putting is the strongest part of my game, and it was going smooth until I tried to hole a birdie putt on #7 from 30ft away - instead of going for the smart two-putt, and the ball sped right past the cup on, leaving me with a tough 10ft downhill putt for par - which I missed.

I was very proud I was able to par the first 3 holes on the turn into the Northlinks course, especially the 4th (13th in my round) because that is one of the toughest greens on the course. I approached it, after a 248 yard (SkyCaddie) drive right down the gut, with a 7 Iron into the middle of the green, pin was on the back right, leaving me two uphill putts for my par.

From there it was basically making the right decisions throughout the rest of the holes - my playing partners remarked that if I could gain some more yardage on my drive I'd be able to be a really good player, good enough to play from the back tees. Hopefully some day - trying to work really hard on my flexibility.

Here's my scorecard, this is what the actual scorecard looks like (I took out the "White" and "Black" tee mark). Made it from scratch last night - must say it don't look that bad
