so called "secrets" of Ernest Jones, Croker, Mike Austin

I think what Erest Jones, Bobby Jones, Peter Croker, Jack Nicklaus and Mike Austin, were all talking about the same thing. Jones called it letting the club head swing crocker Austin and Crocker called it throwing the club head, all the same. Tho I prefer the words throwing it much as you throw a baseball.

what they are all saying is simple mechanics any 4 year old would know and we over think it too much!!!

when you throw a base ball, do you think about propelling the baseball foward? or do you think about holding you wrist cupped into your arm is fully extended. you think about throwing the baseball!

you wind up, your right hand is cupped and when u go foward your (right handers) right elbow gets in front of your right rist. at that piont of transition from wind up to release you are trying to uncup that wrist as hard as u can. Only problem is you can't while you right elbow is ahead of you right wrist, but you still try and that builds force. and as your arm moves foward and your elbow gets under and wrist then past it you wrist will THEN start to uncup and the ball will be released with great force.

if you tryed to cup your wrist and thought about holding that cup untill your arm got extednded then uncupped you couldn't throw a ball half as fast if that much.

same think in golf you are trying to throw the club head (or let the club head swing) from the top. you are trying to un cock your right wrist from the top (whilst keeping it cupped look at gregs RHD for explaination why to do that. that makes sure you utilize all your shoulder rotaion power and keep you lag). so, you try your hardest to un cock from the top (left and right wrist should be uncocking/cocking in same motion) BUT idc how hard you try, you will not be able to uncock your wrist ONCE your left arm is moving down. if you try to uncock b4 transition, then yes u can and will. but after transtition and weight shift your arm should be moving at this point that is when you try to uncock it and you will not be able to untill you reach the release point at the bottom just like u can't uncup your hand when trying to throw a ball untill you hand passes your elbow. if in golf you hold you cock untill the release point, that is just like holding your cup intill releaseing the baseball, no power in that last minute effort. you should be putting energy in the club from the moment right after transition when you weight has just transfered and your left arm is moving foward.

but if you want a different more simple swing thought, think throwing the club, or letting the club swing. Ernest jones ueses the example of swinging a hammer, you dont think about all the mechanics, you just move the head to the nail. same thing in baseball, move ball towards target, same in golf, move club head towards ball. all of those actions will ensure that you will hold you release untill it is most powerfull.

mike austins supposed "secret" is this, after you cup your right wrist on the way back think of turning a door knob counter clock wise.... hmmmm, grip, get to top of swing and try that, you will find you right/left wrist begins to cock. and on the down swing his "secret" is to turn knob clockwise, which uncocks. tho you wont actually uncock untill you get to a release point. and trying to uncock or turn door knob is even over thinking. just like even though in baseball you are trying to uncup your hand you dont think that it comes natural and free flowing and tension free, just as the golf club should be thrown. so dont even think of uncocking wrist, just think of how you could throw that club at the ball harder.

Ernest Jones says the exact same thing, but he doesn't break it down for you like Austin does, he just says let the club swing meaning. and Crocker says throw the club from the top. They are assuming like when you say throw a ball that you will throw the ball, when they say throw the club you will throw the club. again so simple, a 4 year old could do it.

and Mike Austing says the same think that Greg RHD says. Greg says hold the cup in right wrist and uncock it (tunring the door knob).

the golf swing has certain fundementals that need to be follwed posture, grip, balance ect. but the swing itself you guys need to think for yourself and not what magazines tell you or whatever. If you though like a 4 year old learning to THROW the ball and you threw the club, you would be good to go. Now all this is granted you have all the basics down, proper weightshift and swing plane ect and can be a bit more difficult to learn how, but the actaully swing should not be difficult at all.

That all being said, I hate that crocker and a few people say throw from the top (can be misleaing), because you have to throw after transition in which you should have cleared hips at this time allowing yourself to throw the club on proper plane ect so it is not really from the top, watch slow motion videos and you will see that after weight shift and cleared hips the hands are about at (varying) from rib high to shoulder high and that is when you are. at the back swing there left arm is about shoulder height and club is parrelell to ground, and then they transition and the club is now about 45deg to ground but left arm is still very close to shoulder height. that is the position that many refer to as "droping in the slot" mis misleads people to believe that you make a consious effort to drop arms in which you shouldn't it is the weight transfer and clearing of the hips and spine tilt away fromw target that makes your arms appear to have "droped" in a slot.

So swing to the top, transition, weight shift cleared hip, then (dont over think) just throw the club as hard as you want/can and kill the ball. (well anyone that was able to read that whole long post anyway lol)

not only is there the right wrist that supply power but the straighting of the right arm, using your triceps. just as in baseball you straiten you right arm. but again no need to think that, just think throw hard and your right arm will naturally straiten and uncock and do all the things it needs to do to hit harder.
