| Re: 1 iron golfclubs Bill, sweetspot contact means everything. If you shorten the club but stop hitting all over the face, you never see a difference. Now, if you've got a highly repeatable swing and your wear spot is dime sized, yes, loft for loft you'd see a little distance loss in the long irons and a little distance gain in the short irons (long and short being relative to a 'standard' set). But, you simply strengthen the long and weaken the short until you've got the yardage gaps you want - the same you do with any set of clubs.
GN, you're correct, it is my opinion. But the parallel to watching what the pros play is also "don't drive an import - you don't see them racing in NASCAR, do you? Only drive American!"
Pro's represent the top 1% of all golfers. Why would any golfer that WASN'T a plus handicap look to what the pros are playing to help their game? The most forgiving shovels on the planet aren't even in play on the Tour. Does this make them junk?
Your argument in a nutshell is that we should emulate the equipment choices of golfers with skill levels far above our own. Does this even make sense? The Tour is the last place you see golfers changing their equipment, or trying out new tech. So, really, they're behind technological advances mostly.
The better the golfer, the more able they are to play with any equipment.
Man! You've really touched a nerve here! LOL

PCS Class 'A' Clubfitter A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor. |
