You could try the trizact belt - but you may want to use a beat up head to see what kind of finish you get. You may have to go buy some 600 or 1200 grit sandpaper (also known as wet sandpaper), I've also heard of guys using #000 steel wool.

But yes, you get the plug flush then do scratch removal.
