Sometimes I hold my putter horizontally along the line of putt in front of me pointing to the hole. Then I align one of the marks on the ball to the putter shaft so I can align my putter to the chosen line of putt when I address he ball. I've asked my golf instructor if this is ok and he said "As long as you don't touch the actual line of putt on the green you're ok." I checked the USGA rules and there's nothing specific about this. I never see anyone else do this and wanted some feedback. What do you think about this? It's a bit complicated but I find it helps a lot to line-up my putts.
