The other consideration is the length of your new irons. IIRC, graphite shafted clubs are 1" longer than their steel companions. Therefore, if your old clubs and new clubs are the same length, you're effectively playing with shorter clubs. Also, having your lofts weakened by 2* immediately cuts your club selection by one half (assuming a 4* seperation between clubs). SO it goes to reason that even if the lengths are OK, you're out at least 1/2 a length.

But here's the litmus test: Take your old iron and a new iron that are as close to the same loft as possible. Hit them side by side. (Or as easterns like to say, side by each), and check your distances. It may be a case of just needing to learn how to hit your new sticks.
