Re: New Guy on the Tee

Dear Gordon,

You have a real opportunity in front of you. Coaching takes a very special person. I don't think I could do it, but after reading your email it made me think of a few things I am going to pass along, just for the heck of it.

I am so addicted to this sport, it's a joke. I watch the golf channel all the time. One of my favorite shows is the "Playing lessons with the Pros". It gives a glimpse into what they really are thinking about when they are on the course.

The point I am making is that I have noticed one thing. The players who were all coached by the great Harvey Penick talk about him like he was a Vince Lombardy, or Knute Rockne. He must have had a very special way of coaching. Look at Ben Crenshaw's reaction when Harvey Penick died.

I just watched the latest "Playing Lessons" with Sandra Palmer. She was a student of Harvey Penick. She talks about him like a father and with such reverence. He must have been one great coach and human being. If you haven't read his "Little Red Book" I suggest you give it a try.

Best of luck,

Chessbum...
