I was breaking par after 18 months.
I took me less than 6 months and I was scoring in the mid-to-low 70's on tournament courses in amateur tournaments. And I was only 14 years old.
I was a scratch handicap by the age of 15.
I don't remember how long it took me to break 80 for the first time, but it could well have been in the first 2 or 3 months. I do remember scoring a 73(+1) before Christmas of my 14th birthday.
Who says he can't break 80 in 2 months now!?
