Re: Regrip Question

Hi Jim,

The only time I use tape is if the core size of the grip is the same as or bigger than the butt size of the shaft.

If it's the same, I use one layer of tape. I prefer to buy the 2" wide tape, cut it to length, and smooth it on. The other method is to buy the 1" or 1/2" wide tape, and spiral it on (but I'm not that good, and get mezmerized by the barberpole effect).

Just to clear up some terminology (for yours and anyone elses benefit):

Core size - the inside diameter of the grip. Popular sizes are .600" for men, and .560" for ladies. I myself prefer to play .580" grips stretched over .600" butts. This creates a mens standard grip +1/32". There's plenty of charts out and about that will tell you how many layers of tape equal what size grip, and what putting a smaller core over a bigger butt creates.

Butt of shaft - this is the end you'd hold on to. (I know, I know - quit patronizing me, you SOB! )

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
