Shaft Type and Stiffness

I'm in the process of buying new irons. I have tried out several demo sets and intend to purchase Taylormade RAC LT irons. I have a pretty high swing speed and have always hit stiff steel shafts without having ever bothered to hit a graphite shaft. My question is this: would a stiff graphite shaft provide the same resistance as a stiff steel shaft and allow the club head to return to square at the moment of impact, or would the graphite just be too inherently "whippy" for someone with a high swing speed all together?
