A friend of mine knew some folks in the industry and needed some testers who were also technical writers. I fit the bill.
Pro's you get to see new stuff before it goes to market. In some cases you get to keep what you test.
Con's you see some bad stuff make it to market. I also see inconsistency in production runs. This makes me angry. Golfer's pay premium from brand name
clubs. I see mostly bad shafts. Companies are getting better about putting in better shafts. I play a Biggest Big Bertha. One of the best designed heads ever. The OEM shaft was terrible. If you put in a good shaft, you can't beat it.
Standards are not as high as they should be. I tested a set of
irons where the swing weights were off, head weights were off, shafts not from the same run. I had my Hogans taken apart. I had them "tuned" now they are fine.
It's the little things that make equipment better.
