| In Dr. Austin's swing , the first thing that struck me as odd was the hip rotation. It reminded me of the Tom Watson knee pump action. Dr. Austin advocates a compound action. The rear hip (generic for lefties) goes up then down then rotates mimicing the shoulder rotation. To keep the head centered and come from the inside this makes sense.
He always wants the head to stay at it's address position. It turns slightly from the shoulder rotation but the shoulders never wobble. I watched the video of the LPGA player practice session, he got very upset at her because she didn't understand shoulder wobble kills accuracy. Her knees were bent too much and caused the backswing to get off plane and caused the wobble. Even though body styles are different Dr. Austin deals with measurements. The tape was cut off for a while and when it came back on she was a little more composed and was in a better position. I wish it would have shown the interaction between the two.
I have been working on the stationary head and shoulders rotating around it. It forces the abdomen and lower body to be on a disciplined path. When you hit it correctly, it feels like your eyes see a blade of grass and never move from it. Clearly!!! If your head moves you would never see that. It's an eerie feeling if you are not used to it. What I would call a pure golf shot or in the zone. You never have to look up, you know exactly where it is. If you set up for a draw or a fade and just swing it's right there. A bullet shot blitzed down the middle, gone. It's a clear mind with no thought, just like seeing something outside yourself in slow motion.
Just some thoughts on the subject, more to come.
