I know exactly what you're saying. My pro told me this, and I just read it in Five Fundamentals also. The elbows at set up are supposed to point to the respective hips. This tip is useful for my right arm because it forces it to relax and take less control over the swing, and so that I can bring the club inside on the backswing easier. But for the left arm, the effect is that I seem to be pushing/drawing.
I'm still working on this too, would be great to know what you can make out of it
