Cool Can you stand too close

I had been struggling mightily with my swing and my biggest feeling was that my left arm was always coming separated from my body towards impact and I would end up having to flip my hands underneath my wrists. As you can imagine, I hit all sorts of bad shots ranging from pull-hooks-worm burners to high-block-slices.

While at the drving range the other day I remember reading lee trevenio's autobiography where he discussed playing a round with I believe, Billy Casper. He said the first thing he noticed was all the pros seem to stand very close to the ball and have upright clubs. So I tried getting a little closer to the ball to where I felt to close....

and the results were great. I was hitting the ball much higher with all my clubs not my usual low trajectory. The shots were way more consistent. I didn't feel as 'HANDSY" My feeling is that now I didn't have to reach out to hit the ball and was able to swing on a more proper upright swing, which probably got me closer to normal as I have always swung flat.

does this sound right???
