Though this 2 driver system if it continues to allow him to hit more fairways may help, because that is his one down fall in the past is that he only hits about 60% of the fairways and that is not ideal in either open. Augusta and the PGA you can get away with it more then the Opens. Plus I think that both Opens course set up and larger fields allows for more players to have a chance which make them the harder event to win.
As far as Tiger he clearly did not look on his game. But when you only lose by 4 strokes at Augusta you can usually go back and find 5 strokes over the last 36 holes that were blown on those tricky greens. I know you can do that for Chad Cambell, Couples, Vijay and Clark. I am not sure about Retief. As much length of the course was talked about it really always comes down to a players ability to make the 4-8 foot puts to save par or to pick up a stroke on the field.
