Vectorinvestor,
I find at the range you tend to hit the balls further due to them being two piece "rocks", also you have no presure and usually your loose with repetitive swinging.
If you want to sort your yardages out find some practice ground and hit 6 good balls with each club in two different directions into and with the wind. This should give you a good idea of your hitting distance.
As for club selection I would suggest you hit as many as possible with the local Pro to see what suits you, don't go with the idea of what you want, go with what hits the ball best for you.
I have played a blade type club for years then just gone to
Callaway X16 pro series, they look ugly but they are very consistant and now getting used to the look!!!! "What feels good is all you are looking for"
Hope this helps
Ian.
