Measuring Tape

Hi,

I was watching Living Golf on CNN last night and they had an article about custom fitted clubs, in this case from Callaway. The presenter was given a standard club with a piece of tape on it and told to hit a ball toward the net. The ball had a cross shape cut out of it. From the imprint that the ball left on the club, one could see that he had hit the ball a little high on the club and to near the toe. The sales rep then showed a fast camera measurement of the resulting ball path to demonstrate the effect. Finally, they made him a special set of clubs to correct his small fault.

As a complete beginner, I can't see the point in me buying the expenensive clubs but the tape did interest me. Is it possible to use such a tape to correct the swing rather than the club? If so how do you go about analysing the mark on the tape and what is the significance of cutting the cross in the ball?

With every slowed down practice swing I hit the ball square and properly so it always comes as a suprise when it flys off somewhere else when hit in real time!

Many thanks

Richard

By the way, where can you buy the tape?
