Re: Just ordered mine!

So first round on proper course today. Driver still a problem, hit a few good ones, but mostly not getting much distance and height. However I am hitting fairways as I aiming correctly and still drawing the ball.

Irons I am having much more success with particularly high irons. But Ive been getting this pain in 2 fingers on my right hand and up my lower arm ever since I took to the range yesterday.

Im guessing its because I am using my fingers more to manipulate skill 3 for the draw and using muscles Im not used to and it affected me on course today.

Im hoping it will rectify itself, so Im gonna take a day off tomorrow as Ive played all week. Just hope this is not the start of some rsi type injury .

I never sliced or faded the ball once in my whole round, and that is a first. And never have I had so many shots of the fairway in a while! but the pain was on my mind and I hit quite a few duffers.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Final card handed in this morning for my official handicap.

Have handed in a 98, 92 a few weeks ago. This mornings card handed in after Ive been using the 3 skills and shot 84!!!!!

I had 6 pars and 2 birides. Driver still a problem and I had a 9 after losing 2 balls on 1 hole otherwise it would have been a sensational round by my standards. Also had a quite a few putts lipped out that would have gave me a few more pars/birdies.

Obviously still a work in progress, but the difference in my iron shots since the 3 skills has been tremendous! I made some progress with driver near end and and hit 2 crackers.

I think I have been concentrating too hard on trying to hit the nail in the correct path for the driver and forgot about taking a bigger swing. I decided to really let rip with my last 2 drives and the results were outstanding!!

Cant wait to get out there again. Its a great buzz after a round like that. I cant believe I can have a 9 on my card and still be delighted with my round!

Mate that is AWSOME!!!!!

Your irons must be working an absolute treat if you still had 2 misbehaving clubs in the bag, well done! Please let me know what you handicap ends up being. What ever it is, I don't think it is going to stay there very long. By the way, how are the fingers on your right hand?

My own troubles with the driver continue. It looks like the shaft on the Nike driver is really more like a seniors flex then a regular, so this might be at the heart of my issues. I was at the range today and was hitting my irons, 3 hybrid and 3 wood with a straight/slight push direction. The 3 wood was also carrying between 190-220 meters and then rolled into the back fence(approx 250), very satisfying. But when I had the driver in hand........?!#%#$........sigh! Still not working yet.

Towards the end of the session I found I could straighten up the driver a bit(so it looked more like a small push shot) if I closed my shoulders 20-30* at address. Not very pretty, but worked. I then hit a couple of balls like that with my 3 wood and it was all over the place. I then straightened up my shoulders and boom, the ball hits the back fence again. That was my ah ha moment, where I thought it had to be the club and not so much me after all.

I went to the local club fitter(he has a launch meter) where I found out about the shaft problem. Even he couldn't hit it without a push in the shot. But he also gave be another driver to swing while he checked the figures and found my swing was also at fault(too much side spin and back spin). So his suggestion was a slight change in grip position with the right hand(sliding the fingers around more in a clockwise direction) and that seamed to affect the numbers straight away.

So I am getting my driver reshafted as we speak, and I have booked a lesson on the launch monitor for Tuesday. Can't wait to see what I can do with a shaft which is much more similar to my 3 wood.

Christopher

Talking Re: Just ordered mine!

Well, i've read the many reviews of 3skills and it has definately peaked my interest so i've taken the plunge and ordered the book. I expect i'll receive it later this week and aim to give an honest review of how it has helped my game or not.

I suppose it would be a good idea to tell you all where I currently am so any improvement can be monitored. Since the beginning of the year I have been playing consistently poor and my handicap has gone incrementially up from 15.2 to 15.9. However, in the last 3 weeks I have consciously tried to slow down my swing and improve my rhythm and I also changed my driver to a Ping G10. Both have helped enormously and I have been striking the ball much better.

I scored 37 off blue tees last weekend and handicap has been cut to 15.3. My drives were inconsistant but didn't get me into huge trouble except on 6th hole where i drove 2 out of bounds for a scratch. The majority of my iron shots were good, except for 2 terrible ones and 1 poor one. I did hit the most crisp iron shot of my life though - an 8 iron to the green, right out of the sweetspot, with 5yds of backspin. That felt amazing so I hope that 3skills gets me hitting more of those.

I think that without the 3skills book I could probably get myself down to 14 handicap as my game seems to be improving and that is probably where my handicap should be. My weaknesses are my inconsistant drives as they can wreck my card. Both slices and hooks come into play on occasion. Also I sometimes hit very poor irons off the deck and tend to hook irons off tees on par 3's. My putting and chipping is so-so but improving. Basically i'm looking to simplify my thoughts before taking my shots as I think too many swing thoughts and can rush my shots a lot. Thats why i'm interested in 3skills. I went for lessons in the past but I found it actually made my game worse as I was overthinking my swing.

Finally, shot shape tends to be straight or slightly left of target (i'm a leftie so thats a weak slice). I hit a PW about 110, a 6 iron about 160 and my driver about 240-260. Sometimes i get a little bit of a draw but it certainly wouldn't be something i could rely on.

That's it essentially. I'll let you know how my game improves (or otherwise) once i get the book.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Well, by pony and Trap delivery from the printing press in deepest darkest Africa, My copy of "Nail It" has arrived!! (Cheers for sorting it again Greg)

Looking at it it's proffessionally done, clear and concise. Hopefully it will streamline my swing thinking a bit because at the minute i'm going through a 5 minute essay before I even take the club back!!

Initially the skills seem good and clear and most importantly are pretty simple without all the technical guff that clog up the brain. I wouldn't say i'm particularly looking to perfect every skill to the nth degree but more solid ball striking and less swing thoughts will do me.

We'll see how it goes.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Hey Folks,

I hope you have same success as I did, if you are looking for away to make the game simpler and not get confused with all dynamics of the swing then I think you will get the benefit!

The 3 skills really are the only things I think about at all when playing now. For me the 3rd skill is not even something to concentrate on, I just visualise the draw and it happens, might sound weird but it works (for me) and like I said before even when it does not work, Im hitting the ball dead straight, so ball gets to same target just with a little less distance.

If any part of my game is faltering, I tend to go back to 1skill and take it from there.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Don't make the same mistake as me. I started off great. I hit better iron shots than I have ever hit before. Then it all started going to pieces. I had to get help in the end. What I was doing in an effort to make sure that I was "inside" was to take the club inside far too much too early. I nearly gave up the game I was so inconsistent. Happily now I am well back on track again.

I could see how that might happen, but at the moment I find the clapping hand exercise from the book deffo helps with finding the natural path from the inside. The only club I have had any problems with is the driver, but I was even getting some success with that near the end of my last round.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Im now regularly hitting low 80s. Im confident of breaking 80 for the first time in the next few rounds, its only been one or two bad holes stopping me at the moment.

Not too impressed with my club though, I handed my 3rd card in over a week ago for official HC and have been chasing them up as the championship qualifiers are this weekend. When I phoned today, the guy said Im not even in the system.

Ive to phone back tomorrow, although I don't hold much hope. I expect I'm gonna be handing in another 3 cards.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Hi Ian,

I still waiting in anticipation for the book to arrive. No sign of it yet.

Played a truly awful round of golf on Saturday for the Presidents Prize. Granted the miserable weather played its part but it was not pretty golf. my irons performed about 70% of the time, driver about 40% and i should have left my putter at home.

I hope the book arrives this week. I could do with some 3SKSG therapy.

Re: Just ordered mine!

Any idea how long it takes to receive the 2skills book? It's over 2 weeks now and no sign of it. It was STG£8.00 to send the thing from the UK to Ireland so presume thats by some swiftpost. Dying to get my hands on it.

Re: Just ordered mine!

One went missing but Greg sent out another one and that landed as expected. I'd email Greg mate, he sorted mine. it looks like the despatch procedures have gone a bit skew whiff at the old 3Skills HQ!!
