It's about the only thing holding me back - is paying $60CAD + shipping and duty for a book I don't need... yet.

Which costs as much to ship the book as the book itself ($50 for book with shipping). I was not aware Amazon had it. I'll probably order from there and save $20.

$50 delivered works out at about £25. I paid £19 i'm in the same blummin' country as the printing press!

It's not the total, it's the principle of paying just as much for shipping as for the product. It's one thing to expedite and pay a boatload of shipping, but when basic shipping costs the same as the product...


For example, about 2 years ago a bank I frequent arbitrarily raised the charge for one of their services 100%. 100%. Doubled it. Overnight. I cancelled that service right away. What was it? Overdraft protection. What did it cost before the doubling? $1/month. Do I care about the extra $12 off the bottom line? No. It's the principle of the thing. Could you imagine the outrage if the cost of fuel doubled overnight? Or the price of a litre of milk? Or the cost of spikes for your golf shoes, or balls? Outrage!

Talking of banks, I made a small miscalculation last month and went 44p over my overdraft. The charge for this?....................£60.00!!!!

Challenge them, they are not allowed to do that. Demand a refund, suggest you are willing to pay say £5 or take them to a small claims court.

Tell them if they charge you then they can go ahead and close your account. Tell them another bank will let you have a 200 pound overdraft for situations like that. They'll soon waive the fee.

I used to threaten to close my account all the time and it always worked for me.
