To check if you are gripping correctly, buy a new glove and check for the wear. It should now be on the pad near the wrist, below your little finger. Almost all gloves are reinforced in this area to allow for the wear. You should also notice some light wear at the base of the fingers although it shouldn't be much more than a light scuffing it your grip pressure is correct.
