I know what you're going through, VI, as I had to address the same problem this year.

The way I start to take my grip is by letting my arm hang freely at my side. This puts my palm pretty much perpendicular to the floor, back of my hand facing the target.

Then I put the club in my lead hand, and grip it. Next, I add my other hand, and address the ball. A quick knuckle check lets me know if I'm too strong or too weak. I prefer a slightly weak grip (2 knuckles only).

When I first started, I had the proper grip (fingers and pad), but it was too strong at address (4 knuckles).

Once you start using this grip more, you'll fully understand what I mean by knuckles - it'll also help you figure out some ball flights (if your grip is too strong or weak).
