You can make a putting guide to groove your stroke. This can be made out of anything - a couple books, some 2X4s, golf balls, tees, etc. Let's use the 2X4s for example. Lay each piece of wood parallel to the target line, just outside the toe and heel of your putter, leaving enough room for your putter to move through. Each piece should be atleast 8" long, with the ball lined up with the middle of the boards.

The purpose of this is to keep your putter from hitting the boards. If you can keep from hitting the boards, this means you have developed and nice, straight back and through swing. This is more difficult than you might imagine because any movment in the hands will cause you to hit a board.
