| A shorter driver....
I have been spending an inordinate amount of time with my driver(s), and I spend next to no time with my three wood and my five wood – the ball – with those clubs is straight and for me, long enough. So, I am thinking of selling my Taylormade 540xd – stiff graphite and going with a Talyormade 540xd steel, and have the shaft cut about an inch less than standard. I have never considered a steel driver – is one steel shaft the same as another…. I am supposing that I have no problems with my 3 and 5 because they have shorter shafts… it has just occurred to me – I could have the shaft shortened on my Taylormade…. I have been using the Speedstick – and I have seen major gains in swing speed (as measured by the speedstick) However, it has not parlayed in distance with my other clubs. This isn’t to say the speedstick doesn’t work – it may well be my technique which is lacking. As a newbie, it has finally dawned on me that I am spending a vastly disproportionate amount of time with my driver at the expense of all of my other clubs. If Ihad a driver that was built for accuracy as opposed to distance – perhaps I wouldn’t spend so much time trying to go for distance. A big thanks to Gord – I was out yesterday hitting with my irons – I was deliberately hitting with a “descending blow”. I had better results, but if you focus on hitting with a descending blow you can be damn sure you are not going to “scoop” the ball. I will be taking a series of six lessons for beginners next month. The money had to be spent either there – or on Anger Management! James  |
