Grip Tape

Hi,

I am going to regrip my clubs myself. I've been looking at various sites, learning about the required supplies and "how-to-do-it-yourself".

Does anyone know if the two-sided grip tape is a unique golf club tape or is it generic tape. For instance, there is a two-sided 2" tape that is used for installing carpets. Would this work?

Re: Grip Tape

regripped in the past using a kit from sports shop. easy to do , but grips are basic , probably use a pro now for better quality.

Re: Grip Tape

Moka,

I had this question about 2 years ago. I found a great answers on this site. This is what I found:

You don't need tape.

What you do need is new grips and a air compressor with a hose and a blow nib. Not the kind you air tires with but the kind that blows things like saw dust or hair or any small debris. Oh, and great pressure is not required.

Cut the old grips off.

Get the shaft clean. Make it void of old glue. GooGone works wonders

A vise would be great but a friend works too.

You can lube the inside of the grip with light dish detergent water

holding the grip to the shaft end push the nib into the endhole and give it short bursts of air

the grip will will ride on the air cushion and should slip right over the shaft

keep giving it air until you like the grip on it.

The grip should be ready to play within minutes given that you did not make the detergent too heavy. If too much it will take time to dry.

If you don't like it put the nib back in and give it some more air.

replacing the grips should take 20 minutes tops once you have the old grips off. That is the hard part. this is for your entire set of irons!

Once you have done this taking these off is a cinch.

I have already replaced 3 sets of grips. My 6 year old son helps me.

No problems with the grips. they are usually very tight already and since they are rubber or polymer they grip the steel shaft snugly

For a compressor you can buy a battery charger combination compressor
that you need for your car when you need to jump a dead battery for about $50. Great investment and multi tasker
(Hope this helps)

Re: Grip Tape

I've used carpet tape before in a pinch. But you didn't hear it from me! LOL

I use compressed air to do my gripping.

The only thing I'd disagree with in TD's post is the type of compressor used.

By a good one - and the bigger the tank, the better.

Re: Grip Tape

Thank you all for the info/guidence. I did go the traditional route in the end, after finding the proper tape at a reasonable price. It really was quite a simple process. One of these days I'd like to try the air, it sounds like an easy way.

Re: Grip Tape

I use air, excepecially with reminder rib, putter and leather grips. On and off lickity split. About 35 -40 psi will do it.
