Length of Clubs

Hi
I'm tossing up wether to buy new clubs or not so have been doing research on the net. My main issue is club length. I am 6'7". Wrist to floor is 39.75in. My current clubs were custom built and the irons are 3.5in over standard (5 iron is 41.5in). When ever I fill in online fitting charts the longest fitting I get is 1.5 over. If I used clubs that were only 1.5in over I would be bent over like my grandparents
My handicap is 20 and I can stike the ball very cleanly (when the swing is working)
What are people's thoughts

Re: Length of Clubs

Find a TLT fitter. A 7 foot man didn't find good ball striking until he visited a TLT fitter. Most online systems won't get you to more than 1.5" over, because they're afraid to get the swingweight too far away from D4.

at ~40" WTF, you must have some long arms!

Re: Length of Clubs

hi
with Ping, the clubs for your hight would be 1 1/2 inches longer but also 4.5 degrees more upright. this would make you bend less.
you do not say if your old clubs were more upright or standard lie.
cheers
bill

Re: Length of Clubs

Even at extremely upright, the taller golfer ends up crowded by the shorter club. IMO, it's better to play longer, flatter clubs - resultant swingweight be damned!

Re: Length of Clubs

hi lowpost
i am no club fitter and have very little knowledge of it and i bow to your much superior knowledge on the matter of club fitting.
maybe you could help me understand more by putting me right about lie and distance to the ball.

would a much more upright lie not also bring the hands back closer to the body making you bend less as your closer to the ball.
i was thinking more of a 2 inch or 2 1/2 inch extension on say a club with say a club with 4 1/2 degrees of more upright lie.
with a flatter lie of say 2 degrees would you not stand further from the ball and have to lean over more with the same length of shaft.
maybe i have it wrong but with my flatter 2 degree (orange spot) lie clubs i seemed to bend more and have a swing flatter one plane swing than with the standard (Black spot) lie clubs i used before.
thanks again
bill

Re: Length of Clubs

Yes Bill, length being the same, flatter clubs will bend you over more. My solution is to increase length to counter flattening so that you don't bend over more for the flattening, and don't have to have your arms in closer because it's shorter.

Does that help?

Re: Length of Clubs

There's a TLT registry at www.danscustomgolfshop.com/registry.html

But it looks like you want Nigel at MatchPlay Clubfitting in Brisbane. 0409 213 047 or nsold@bigpond.net.au
