| Putter balance Hi everyone, Some of you may remember me shortening my putter after realising I am a pendulum putter with a straight action.I am happy with the results but need some fine tuning.Basically the head feels a little light, and I wish to add some lead tape until it "feels" right.I have probably answered my own question, but in getting to where it "feels" right is there some starting point I should be looking for, perhaps a balance point when held horizontal? | Re: Putter balance Hi Peter, You will know when it feels right for you. Everyone is different, although I believe the majority of players and most pros prefer the "feeling" of heavier heads. Add the tape in increments. I believe 1/2" of 1/2" lead tape is 2 gms, so you can do the math of adding whatever increments you chose. 2 gms at the head will give you 1 swingweight. The two inches you took off the shaft took 12 swingweights off from the original, so that's a lot of lead tape. But, it may be that you reach a point less than what you had originally and you will be happy with it. Add tape and try it, and repeat until it feels right. | Re: Putter balance Hi Ted,Good to say hello again.I thought that might be the case. The weights I have are 1cm by 5cm and fit perfectly on the head in a place that looks made for them.Thank you for answering so quickly,I will get right to it. Regards Peter ![]() |

| Re: Putter balance Hi everyone,I just thought I should add a footnote here. Be very careful when adding weight as I have done.I found that a little weight goes a long way.I only added 10 grams of lead when in theory 24 grams should have been the correct amount.Ted was right in saying slowly add weight until it feels right.I swear the putter has a heavier head now than before I cut it down. That is fine for me ,it was what I was looking for but some could easily get caught out. Regards, Peter. Last edited by golfshooter; 03-08-2009 at 11:25 PM.. |

| Re: Putter balance Hi Ted,its ok I have always been intuitive but shocking at mathematics, the main thing is the putter feels great. I was getting some advice from a low handicapper yesterday about driving distance,he spotted my putter and completely dismissed it saying "you can get rid of that too its a juniors"Am I the only one that gets it? I strike the ball cleanly with a straight action in a pendulum fashion. That explanation got a no comment grunt.I suppose I will just have to get used to the ridicule. ![]() |
