Building a set of Irons for my Tall Nephew

A couple weeks ago at Easter I was talking with my nephew and he said he was like to start playing golf. My nephew is 6'4", played college basketball and I would guess could become a good golfer. Since he's graduating from college this Spring I'd like to buy or build him a set of irons as a gift. This would be a easy task if he was 5'11" but since he's 6'4" I'm guessing he will need a little longer shafts and possibly a couple of degrees of adjustment on the lie of the clubs. Can anyone recommend a set of iron heads that are available on line or from Golfsmith or Golf Works that would work for him? Any advise would be great.

It's not necessarily the case the lengths and lies have to be adjusted because of his height. A person could be tall, but have long arms and/or short torso.

There is a fitting protocol, one of which is the measurement of the wrist to floor, another is the measurement of the contact of a club bottom on the impact board.

One example is Stewart Cink who is around 6'5", who plays regular length clubs. Perhaps his lie is upright, I'm guessing based on his swing.

GolfWorks has an excellent clubmaking forum on its website and Jim Yanichen (sp?) is the resident clubmaking expert and moderator. If you have a GolfSmith nearby, it's worthwhile to drop in.

Thanks Rotator, I checked the Ping fitting chart and with his wrist to floor and height measurements he's on the high end of the maroon color code. 4.5 degree upright and 1/2 in extra shaft length. I've used the Golfsmith club building forum before but had to wait at least a week for a responce from one of there club builders. Anybody have any input on the generic cast club heads available on ebay?

If he's been golfing and is serious about it, find a True Length Technology fitter in your area and get them to fit and build.

If he's just 'testing the waters' then any old set built .5 to 1" over with lies adjusted will do.
