Re: how to change golf club's grip

Smoking-Red,

Changing grips can be done very easily,

First cut the old grip off using a sharp knife.

You will then need some double-sided sticky tape.

clean the old tape off, then put some new tape on the clean shaft the same lengh as the new grips. One important point when you apply the sticky tape you can put more on to thicken the grip to suit you hand size.

I then use surgical spirits to dip the club in when you have stuck the tape onto the shaft, this makes the tape really slippy.

Simply slide the new grip on and aline the grip straight and leave to dry.

Sorry I have no pictures.

Hope this helps

Ian.

Re: how to change golf club's grip

A tip for you here: Be very carefull when removing the grip with a knife. The best knife to use is a stanley knife as seen below. But I found the best blade is a hooked one, it allows you to hook the blade under the end of the grip and then simply slice up the grip far more easily. REMEMBER: Never cut towards yourself, allways away from your body to prevent injury!

If it is a graphite shaft be very carefull not to damage the shaft. Sometimes it is better to be on the safe side and inject the grip with surgical spirits, which loosens it then you can just slide the grip off, you can also save the grip this way.

Re: how to change golf club's grip

I've just changed my first grip.

First, secure the club in a shaft grip, then put the grip in your vise.

I got a surgical syringe, and injected 5ml of grip solvent at 4 different points around the grip, and 60 seconds later pulled the old grip off.

A razor blade took off the old tape, then I cleaned the shaft with mineral spirits.

Took some 2" tape and ran it up one side and down the other. I removed the backing, put some grip solvent in the new grip, shook it all around, then poured it on the tape.

I aligned the grip the way I wanted it, pinched the mouth and slid 'er on.

Then I popped the club out of the vise to double check my alignment (I had to put it in the vise again and twist the grip a little).

It should be ready to roll in the next half hour!

Re: how to change golf club's grip

Instead of dipping the shaft in the solvent, try this:

put your finger over the hole in the bottom of the grip. Pour a little bit of solvent in the grip and shake to get the entire inside covered. Then, over a tray, slowly pour the solvent out of the grip over the tape on the shaft.

You mean to remove the old tape? Or before applying the new grip?
