Re: Golf Clubs Lengthened

@Mike - I'd play with the PTS on a taper shaft if someone wanted it to play a touch stiffer.

Like I said, most shafts have a PTS, and some Tapers in combo flexes have a fairly large one (for tapers).

As a rule, I avoid tapers like the plague - they're a headache to deal with from a building perspective, and I love nibbling shafts to get custom flexes.

Re: Golf Clubs Lengthened

I'd say a combo flex suits the club builder more than it suits the golfer, per se.

With a R/S combo flex, I get a shaft that starts out in R flex, but I have a 1.5" PTS (for arguments sake) that I can cut off to make the shaft play at S.

Or take 0.75" for a firm. Or 1" for slightly firmer than firm, and weaker than S. I think you get the idea.

Re: Golf Clubs Lengthened

Dear Indian

Not sure whether you have already had your clubs worked on. I am a club builder in California and have assisted many customers in lengthening their clubs. Against my advise, I have done jobs with 3" extension and they usually break. The problem is that the left hand, being your power hand fully grips the extension component only, and none of the shaft itself. This places a tremendous amount of strain on the extension Shorter extensions are safe because you still have some of your grip on the shaft itself. You would be better served to either have your clubs re-shafted, or replace them. Unless you have some type of unique or expensive heads, the replacement would not be much difference than the re-shaft price. Good luck!

Re: Golf Clubs Lengthened

Well I just received my irons back today... I decided to get them reshafted with the Rifles, 6.0 I believe. They were Pulled out shafts from Cleveland and the guy measured me and everything and fixed the lie/loft of the irons for me. It cost me 100.00 for all irons with the fitting being free, the shafts, the change of the loft/lie and the Grips, the guy chose the Velvet Tour Midsize by Golf Pride. The Rifles look very nice and of course I havent been able to hit them since I just got them back today and it is freezing cold here in OK. Needless to say, I can feel the difference just by standing and sitting the club to the ground, he went only 1" longer and 2* up and it seems much better just by sitting up my stance. I will be able to go hit a bucket, maybe even play with them on Sat or Sun as it will be 56 and only 5-15 winds...I hope I like the Rifles but anything had to be better than the SHORT BUBBLE GRAPHITES..
