Iron shft length question...

Recently reshafted my irons. I now have Rifle 5.5 (actually came out to 5.7) TF shafts in my Cally Fusion heads. Very happy with the results.

One area of the new shafts that I am not convinced of is the length. I am 5'9" with 33.5 WTF. My shafts are std factory length. I am getting the feel that the shafts are a bit too long.

Can I get some feedback on this based on the measurements given??? Thanks!

Also, if 1/2" is taken off the butt end, how will this effect playablity (stiffness, distance, ball height, etc..)

Well, static fitting puts you on the low side of standard. Again, my standard disclaimer is 'what's standard'?

FWIW, STANDARD (according to static fitting) goes like this:

4'10" to 5'4" with a WTF (wrist to floor) of 33" - 35"
5'4" to 6'2" with a WTF of 33.5" - 35.5"
6'2" to 6'9" with a WTF of 34" - 36"

I find it odd that we have a 6" space for group one, a 10" space for group two, and a 7" space for group three. But I digress.

Again, static fitting is a starting point. The real test is dynamic fitting.

To answer your questions, Rifles are designed to be tip sensitive. What this means is that their trimming instructions are: Butt trim to length. So taking another 1/2" off shouldn't hurt. Your swingweight will drop a couple points, but you may or may not feel that.

I will try gripping down some. I can't imagine that I need an inch cut off. My thinking was I would get a cleaning swing with maybe 1/2 off.

Yes, on the fringe of going 1/4" lower.

I just finished reading a helluva post on the Wishon Forum about a clubmaker/fitters' struggle.

Long story short is that 'static' and 'standard' have no business in fitting.

Mr. Wishon advocates a shorter driver than 45". However, for my own personal fitting, I find I'm OK with the right setup at 45". Go figure.

im curious how you obtain WTF measurement. stood upright i measured fron wrist crease to floor and i get 29" and im 5'8" tall that cant be right can it?

You measure from the first major crease in your wrist to the floor, standing straight (like you've said).

FWIW, I'm 6'1" and have a WTF of 35.5".

If you have longish arms or shortish legs, it could very well be that your WTF is 29".

my clubs are mizuno mx-15's and i bought them standard size

It suggests that they are too long, yes.

That said, the answer isn't to bust out your compressor and hacksaw.

The answer is to take them and check them for lie, initially, and get fitted properly.

just letting you know had 6i reworked today loft and lie ok had shaft cut down by 3/4" and unless a fluke the results really pleasing distance better and a damn sight more accurate!
