Should I move to stiff shafts?

I've played Dynamic Gold R300s for years (in numrerous clubs), but recently my distance has gone up, but my accuracy has decreased.

Is this a sign that I need a stiffer shaft (S300 maybe)?

Re: Should I move to stiff shafts?

hi
one way to find out is to get one club changed, say a 6 iron and see how you find it, hit a bucket of balls with the 6 iron before you have it changed and take note of where say 50 balls land, a pice of papper and just put dots where the balls land, then do same with the new shafted club and compare. that will tell you right off and if it works then change them all.

Re: Should I move to stiff shafts?

It could well be. Increasing inaccuracy along with increasing distance can indicate the the shafts are too soft for your swing speed, along with an increased tendency for your bad shot to be a hook or pull.

Bill's idea is a great way of telling how you would fair with stiffer shafts short of getting a demo set and trying them out.

If you do decide to go to stiffer shafts, make sure you have a good look at what are available not just from TrueTemper but also other companies like Royal Precision. There are many different models which could be better for you than the standard S300 Dynamic Gold.

Re: Should I move to stiff shafts?

an indication they may be to soft is that the ball flight is hooking or going to high.

Re: Should I move to stiff shafts?

I have Titleist MS-209 stff shafts in my irons. I hit the ball quite high, but often with a push slice to the right or a pull to the left. Are my shafts too stiff and should I go to a regular flex.

When playing with my Friend the last few times, he hits his seven iron about 160 to 170 yards with a regular shaft. I am only at about 140 - 145 yards.
