| Re: Question regarding shaft length Put a quarter on the floor. Stand in a textbook 'ready' position (knees slightly bent, shoulders over toes, arms hanging). Your standard golf swing setup should also do (and should look awfully close to a classic athletic 'ready' position). Grab a club. Set it down so that the toe sits on the quarter (properly grounded club). Hold the club so that the head stays put, and you get into your ready position. Can't get 'ready' without picking the club up? The club is too short. Can't get 'ready' without moving your hands way down the club? The club is too long. For a too short club, get a friend to measure the distance between the sole at the heel and the ground. Add 1/4" (for good measure), and build to that length. For a too long club, use a marker or a piece of tape to mark where the club exits the top of your hands. Cut it down to the mark +1/4".

| Re: Question regarding shaft length A follow-up question... Is there any harm in getting clubs lengthened longer than the charts recommend? Based on the charts I am either standard or 1/4 - 1/2 inch long. As I am a beginner, it seems more sensible to get the clubs made 1 inch longer just in case I develop a preference for a longer club. Will it introduce any bad effect if my clubs are then 3/4 inch too long? I know that the max extension is typically limited to 2 inches. Why wouldn't I get the full 2 inches? Ken |
