How do I correctly shim?

I have a few questions about shimming some .335 graphite shafts to fit in a .350 wood head and a .355 taper tip hybrid.

Do I use liberal amounts of expoxy on the shim? Will I need shafting beads for both club heads, and about how many beads are needed?

What do I do to get the hosel to fit?

Your help is greatly appretiated.

Re: How do I correctly shim?

So let me get this right:

You have some .335 shafts that you would like to put into a) a .350 head and b) a .355 taper tip head?

I wouldn't get crazy with the epoxy, no. Epoxy the hosel as you normally would, epoxy the shaft tip as you normally would, add the shim, and put it in. I would NOT use beads in this application, as you want maximum epoxy coverage between all 3 parts. (But if you did use beads, I'd suggest exactly 62 beads - no more, no less.)

As for the taper tip hybrid, I'd suggest using a taper tip shaft. Shimming to make up some space is all right (IMO), but a taper tip is a wedge shape, and now you're trying to jam a square peg into that wedge. I'm not saying it WILL fail, just that it is certainly more prone to failure.

That said, the technique is the same - just use the proper shim.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
