golf grip size

hi all
i am looking for some advice.
am i right in assuming that if your golf grip is too big that you have trouble getting the club squared at impact?

Re: golf grip size

Hi Slats,

There is a simple rule for grips, to thick and it restrics rotation (closing of the clubface) to thin and a hook is on the cards.

Most pros have a fitting chart for grips.

Ian.

Very important to get fitted; yes, too thick and fades, too small and hooks. I personally have what is called mid size grips because I have long fingers and I hold the club mainly in my fingers. Perfect and I recommend getting fitted and if in between regular and mid size-get mid size because it will reduce the tendency to grip too tight.

Re: golf grip size

Time for the non-standard answer - but the one I prefer.

You need to find a size that you're really comfortable with. Not just comfortable, but really comfortable.

For me, it's a slightly undersize grip (stretched Tour Velvet with matching core and butt sizes). Granted, I've got smaller hands.

Most of the clubs that are sold have grips on them that are too small for men. Why that is I have no idea. If you wear a large glove you should have at least a mid-size grip. Or you can double up on the tape prior to having regular grips installed. Myself, I prefer buying mid-size grips without having to build up the grips with tape.
I plan on changing my regular grips that came with my current set to a mid-size grip. The "Lamkin Grip" website has a fitting chart...i.e. you just place your hand on a print-out of their hand chart and it will tell you your hand size. My hand size is between a medium and a large. What you can also do is go to a shop that has various size grips and try them out...see which one feels best for you. On a side note I've had problems with "Winn Grips"...they did not even last a season. The new innovations in golf grips, in my opinion, are not worth the extra cost. Go with the tried and true cord grips. They will last a very long time.
