three wood flex?

Should my three wood shaft match my driver shaft?
I have stiff flex in my driver.
Should I get stiff in my three wood?

i was reading a bit about this just the other day and what they said was most handicap players now used matched set of irons but diffrent set up off woods and that meant they had to adapted to diffrent swing weights and diffrent kick points of the club and shaft and that made it harder to be consistant with all clubs, what they said was to match your irons and your woods and you would play more consistantly then if you used a set of matched irons and diffrent woods. i do have the same shaft's in my irons as i have in my woods and there a matched set and i often hit my driver off the fairway on long par 5s and its no harder to use than hitting my 5 iron.
one of the best clubs i have in my bag is my 1 iron off the tee and i put that down to my clubs being matched and not down to me being a good golfer.

I use the same shaft in my full swing irons (and PW and AW), I use the same shaft in my FW's, and the same shaft in my SW and LW. My putter gets its own shaft, and so does my 1W, as I consider them specialty clubs.

The FW's both have AccuFLEX Icon FH's in them (I love it - very smooth feeling shaft) and my irons to AW are TT DG X100's. I've got TT DG S300's in my SW and LW. Like Bill, I'm looking for repeatable performance and feel.

I have a question about gram weight between my driver and 3wd. My driver is a graff. blue s with only 65grams 45inch and my 3wd is an aldila nv stiff 85grams 42.5 inches in length. When I am hitting my driver well I usually hit a baby draw, but even off the tee with my 3wd I seem to hit a slight push cut. I am thinking this is due to the weight of the club, not the stiffness. My swing speed with a driver is slightly below 120 and my 3wd about 110. They both feel similar in stiffness so I am confused. Any info appreciated.

85g is a pretty standard weight for a fairway wood shaft. However, with those swingspeeds, I can see how you might do OK with the Graf Blue S, but I think the NV S would be to soft for you. You may be 'overloading' the shaft (ie it may not be recovering fast enough for your swing). Especially if you're not effected by bending feel (ie feeling like you have to wait for the shaft) then you may be 'dragging' the head through impact. Some video would help.

What happens with your 3w if you ease off a little, or try to smooth one out there? Better direction?

When I swing real smoothly, just trying to bump one out there I usually hit it pretty straight. Thats with my 3wd. It seems like I can't go after my 3wd though or I will be in the right rough. With my driver I can go after it as hard as I want and only sometimes when I am juicing it I get the same result as my 3wd, but usualy a smooth swing a draw and a hard swing straight etc. But my 3wd never works. This is all assuming I'm on. Most of the time it's army golf anyhow.

I double checked the shaft profiles (Graf Blue 65 vs NV 85). While the NV is slightly softer (very slightly), they'd play the same in your driver. However, the heavier head in the 3w weakens the flex - apparently at this point, quite a bit.

Try a heavier Graf Blue in your 3 wood - it'll be more shaft and should hold up better.

Thanks lowpost. I think I am going to buy a new 3wd with the same shaft thats in my driver. My current club is old and I really should upgrade to a bigger titanium head anyway. Of course thats when I get the $. Pooh
