Cracked Driver Face

This is the second driver face I have cracked in the last 3 years. I have a 1 1/2" horizontal crack along the face. The first was the TM R5 with the stock shaft (55g). This past Sunday it was my TM R7 460 with the stock shaft (60g). TM will replace it but this is crazy. I not that big of a person 6'1" 220. I thing it has to do with the shaft. This time I will replace it with the same club but with a Aldila NV 75. I did use my buddies driver which is a Nike Sumo with the above referenced shaft and like it alot. Has anybody had this problem with TaylorMade drivers in the past. And also what you thing about getting a heavier shaft if this might help.

I think that face failure has nothing to do with the shaft.

I would agree, there were rumors that Tiger could not use Drivers with the lowest CORE because his swing speed would cave in the face of the club, but a crack in the Driver I would attribute to a manufacturing defect, that or anger problems

At least if it was anger I could understand it. But I don't play that game it's just to expensive. It is just odd that it is from the same company (TaylorMade).

I'd suggest moving to a model by SMT. "The winningest head in Long Drive history". If guys swinging at 150 MPH have trouble hurting them, I don't think you'll have an issue. And if you do, SMT has a lifetime warranty.

That is something to think about but right now my driver is still under warranty and I will not have to pay to get a new one.

I finally got my driver back with the new heavier shaft (Aldila 75G) and love it. My ball flight has gone from a fade or slice to a draw, high or low depending how I hit it. But what I notice is I have better control of my ball flight with the heavier shaft. I can make the ball fade or cut if I want to. Its great. But I do have a question about the driver face cracking. When I go to the driving ranges in my area most of them you have to hit off a mat with the rubber tee. A couple of them will let you hit your irons off the grass but woods have to be hit off the mats. The reason being is that where the irons are hit from the grass the driving range will not lose balls over the net. The mats area is further from the nets so no lost balls over the net. But both times that I notice the face being cracked was after I hit my driver from the mats with the rubber tee. Now I did not hit the club on the mat because I would have felt it. Maybe I am crazy but I think hitting the face of the driver into the rubber tee's has something to do with it. And then again maybe not just wondering.
