Getting to scratch?

Hi,

Just a few questions for any pro's/low handicappers out there; I am currently off a 7 handicap and would desperately love to be playing off scratch/1 so I could enter into the major competitions in my country (Ireland) and Im just wondering how most other scratch/1 handicap golfers actually achieved there handicaps? Did you have to take a lot of tuition, take on a physical training progam, study sports psychology? How much practice (hours per day on range, rounds per week etc.)? How much tuition? What kind of time period did it take? Any secrets that helped? What goals should I set myself this summer? Basically, has anyone got any advice on what kind of routine I need to achieve my goal?

Thanks a mil,

Paul.

Re: Getting to scratch?

Playing of a 7, I can bet the only thing holding back from a scratch golfer is your short game. Getting your chips into 1 putt range is where most of the amatuers fail because of the lack of practice time.

Everything else you mention will also play a determining factor, but if you are not on GIR 14/16, you need an amazing short game to keep your number of putts to a minimum.
