Cool course management

im still trying to guage what my yardages are in particular my wedges lack of that knowledge is costing me a lot of shots. i know my distance with my 4i it is 185/195yds as i pop it on par 3 13th at my local course assuming im making reasonable strike each time how would that relate to my pw,lw,sw.? 185/195 does that sound puny?

Re: course management

Narrow the stance as you go down in club....only slightly. Maybe a max foot's width total.

Re: course management

Hi Slats,

Make sure the yardages you are hitting each club are on the fly - not roll.

Re: course management

IMO, I would avoid the sand wedge, lob wedge from 100 yds in unless you absolutely need to use them (ic hitting over a trap to a small green, tight pin placement, from the ruff etc.) Hitting a 1/2 or 3/4 pw or 9 iron from these distances keeps the ball low and much more accurate. you need to gauge your landing area depending on the pin placement, short of the green for front placement and front of the green for back placements etc.

Re: course management

The other thing to be wary of, which of course you never get on the range, is the traps. My previous two rounds I've got greedy and tried to play a 3/4 PW and fly it just over the trap. Ended up in the sand and shortsided myself

Sometimes its better to just go straight for the heart of the green and give yourself that birdie chance. That to me is good cousre management and im still learning the hard way that i cant be as aggressive as I think I should be (always trying to pull off the miracle shot )

Re: course management

thanks nickers/msklar/pnearn
having these figures big improvement to me as i previously had no idea what the distance scope was with each club. got something to work with now.
at the moment the local courses are so wet there is no roll anyway1
i never try to play 100% with wedges i always club up and choke down
hows the ankle nickers?
