mis-scoring playing partner

hi folks.

Every week i play in a 4 ball with 3 work collegues. 1 of them in paricular seems to lose count of his shots and always claims a 4 or a 5 when in reality he actually scoring a 7 or an 8.
To make matters worse , in the clubhouse, he blatently brags about what a good round he as had.

I don't want to embarass him by confronting him but it is getting out of hand now.

what can i do ??????????

First of all you need to ascertain whether or not his actions are deliberate.

At my home club there are a couple of those who also can't count. In the first couple of holes they are corrected by the marker and no doubt if they were cheating, they get the message they are being watched.

If the person is a good mate of mine - I'd pull them aside and bring it to their attention.

If the problem doesn't rectify itself - as a last resort the marker shouldn't sign the card.

the rest of our four ball know he is mis-counting but nothing is ever said to him.

I used to play with a guy like that in a sunday fourball. Off the course he was a good mate but he would regularly claim a 5 when we knew he had an 8.

On one round we took it upon ourselves to delibately tell him before we started that we knew he was cheating and he was just deluding himself more than anyone else. We also said we would all keep a check of his score. So between holes when he claimed a low score we would humiliate him by actually replaying the last hole he played and asking him how he got a 5. He soon got the message and has since stopped

Tough love I think they call it. If he is doing this in a medal though and you are scoring him you should put down what you believe he had. If he refuses to accept the card I would then have a word with the secretary and get one of your playing partners to back you up

easier said than done when its a work colleague
but its so annoying when he wins the 4ball by a couple of shots and you know he's shaved a least a dozen off his round!

exactly my point. even more annoying is he checks all our scores at halfway so he as an idea how many shots to shave off on the back nine.

As stated, as long as he's not winning anything but 'bragging rights', I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once there's something more tangible on the table, I'd go over the hole with hime, stroke by stroke, and ask him to check his math.

will advise him this week that im not scoring my round its just a practise or ill force the is issue by shaving shots myself and see how he reacts!

I was thinking of keeping an extra score card in my bag and marking his true score and the give it to him when he sets off on his lap of honour of the clubhouse.

thats a good idea!
ill get in work 10 minutes earlier on monday morning and show the card to his mates before he starts hollywooding!
and let them work the discrepancy out between em!

This guy is seriously out of order! Does he not realise that he is gambling with his club membership? If he is reported I am sure he will be taken to task by the comittee, and I have seen guys expelled from my club for this carry on. It may not be easy for you, but you may save him from serious embarassment by pulling him on this. He will only appreciate your interest when he realises the seriousness of his behaviour.If he does not, I would remove him from my playing partner list.

haha we got someone like that, the other week he hit his shot on a par 3 waaaaaay left, then hit it over the green into the woods, me and my dad were already done....tired of waiting, he says screw this hole and when we were on the tee for the next hole he said, oh i just gave myself a four on the last hole...it was hilarious

I always seem to play with people like this. It really is embarresing but its very hard to confront them of 'cheating'. A guy that i played with last week in a competition was 3 off the tee after losing his first drive. he ended up hacking it in to finaly get an 8 and as we walked off he goes jus giv us a 5 for 1 point yeah? unfortunatly i was not marking his card and the person who did gave him a 5. I wispered to the markerer that it was not right and just as we were going to ask him about his score he quickly changed the subject.

Anyway later in the match we told him that he got it wrong and he was convinced that he didnt lose his first drive and we could do nothing!!!

Really annoying aswell as this person ended up beating me by 1 point in the stableford competition and won a cobra driver for 2nd place.
