Re: how does it work?

IIRC, you subtract his hcp from yours. Now we've got the number 14. You get one stroke on each of the first 14 handicap holes (ie no stroke on handicap hole 15, 16, 17, or 18).

I'm assuming that stableford points are awarded after any handicap stroke reduction.

hi ben
so if we both take the same amount of actual strokes on any of the first 14 holes i would win the hole with greater stableford score?

Re: how does it work?

Ian , with the extra 14 shots, assuming you would make par on these, you get a score of three pts. Whereas he only has this opportunity on six holes. His pars on the higher index holes are only worth 2 pts

Re: how does it work?

Thinking out loud......

If they are adjusting Slats' h/cap back from 20 to 14 for this Match, then the other guy would be playing off scratch, not 6 and as such wouldn't get any holes where a par was worth 3 s/ford points.

If he still gets his 6 holes, then Slats would still get 2 on the 2 hardest rated holes and 1 on each other hole in line with his allocated 20 h/cap.

Strange to use s/ford in a match play match...

Though at the end of the day, it all still works out much the same doesn't it...

Good luck in the match Slats, let us know how you get on...

Cheers

Re: how does it work?

Right Scrags - either Slats gets 2 strokes on 1 and 2 and 1 stroke on 3-18 and the other fellow gets a stroke on 1 through 6; OR Slats gets 1 stroke on 1 through 14, and the other fellow plays to scratch.

The latter is how I've most often seen it done (and makes more sense).

I take it that you didn't pick your nose, scratch your arse or otherwise show yourself up in the interview then

Good luck in the comps and remember that its considered jolly bad form to take money off fellow members before your probation period is over.
