Carrying v Trolley

I must be just a lazy bar steward as I have a remote control electric trolley so the only stress it puts on my body is my right thunb pressing the buttons.
It does protect my dodgy back though
Its also good for running down your bandit of an opponent who's playing off 18 when he has just done the front nine 5 or 6 shots better than his handicap suggests
You just say "oops sorry I'm still getting the hang of this damn thing, wish my wife hadn't bought me it"

I've only ever used Ping drivers (IST a few years back and currectly a G5) but certainly have no complaints.

sorry to go off topic but do you have any specific golf fitness programs?

Hi Slats,

Creating a program to help you with your golf fitness is something I can do. I don't like to give general advice as everybody is different and will have specific needs and limitations. However, having said that for most golfers I would focus on the following;

- building a degree of aerobic fitness

- base level of overall body strength

- specific focus on core work

- specific focus on stability and more importantly dynamic stability (i.e. being able to maintain a stable body position throughout the swing)

- specific focus on power development (despite what people think - golf is an 'explosive' sport)

- specific focus on flexibility - this is one of the most beneficial aspects of fitness but tends to get ignored by most people. It is particularly important in golf.


Next year I am planning to specialise solely on golf fitness; hopefully this will allow me to give up sitting at a desk for a living!

Keith_mufc is not alone. I too have an electric, remote control trolley. Just a walk in the park for me. On a funny note. I hit a ball into a water hazard. One of the guys I was golfing with got a hold of the remote. After hitting into the hazard, I noticed my trolley heading back to the club house, with my partener saying my trolley had seen enough. I have no hugely strong feelings either way.

Originally, I started carrying largely through peer pressure and 'macho' reasons. Many of the younger guys in club carry, so I thought I should. This is the same sort of reasoning that led me to try smoking when I was fourteen. Luckily, it didn't 'take'...

I then won my current bag on Captain's Day, and it's been a great 'trophy' to use this year. Accordingly, originally, I used a trolley to put it on. Now I carry it, and stand it on it's end like some sort of tour/staff bag.

I don't care either way. Sometimes I think we kid ourselves we play a sport. I think, as a reasonably fit and supple 33 year old, I should be capapble of carrying a mid-weight bag on a 4 mile walk, in you see what I mean? Other days, I envy Slats for his motorised trolley.

I guess I come back to the general principle that the other day I shot my personal best of +12 over par with a lake ball and carrying my bag that didn't have all my usual clubs in it. Take from that what you will...

I just like to carry the bag. Macho thing... not really. Over here, we can't get within 25 yards of greens with a trolley. This slows the game even more (and God only knows there are some people too slow already). You see some players leaving the bag in front of the green, then putt and then return another 25 yards to get their gear. So, the carry bag simply resolves this problem. I just drop it right there by the greenside bunker.

DG, where are you playing where you can't take a pullcart greenside?

Well, I might have been a little over dramatic here. Things have changed in Qc these past few years though. There was a time (not so long ago) where many clubs wouldn't allow pullcarts anywhere near the greens to prevent damaging them.
