If you think they make too much, stop watching them on television. The ratings would go down, the sponsers would pull out and they wouldn't make anything. The sponsers obviously feel it is worth it.

I guess what most of us are talking about is the money needs to be there for the players who are outside the top 75, those are the players who income is derived mostly from their play and not sponsorships. I think that the practice of most of the companies who sponsor a golfer is to go and get 1 or 2 big names Nike with Tiger and Wie, Callaway with Phil and Annika and to pay them really well, then maybe give cheaper deals that are not enough to support the golfers and are strictly for as long as they own a tour card.

The players who are not well known are offered some golf club deals (play our clubs and wear our clothing typr things) but they are not going to meet all their expenses. They also need to be careful in the ones they except. There is a lot of speculation that an equipment change has caused several players to not perform as well as they were prior to the change.

But the top players and the PGA is very much in favor of giving huge checks to the winners and not paying everyone in the field, and also prohibiting of paying appearance fees as they sometimes do overseas.

I playful idea!
What if I tried to become an professional golfer. Well, I started golf almost 6 months ago and I am only 48 years old. This gives me about 2 years to practice for senior tours.

This year I'll learn the game. Drop my handicap from 41 to under ten. Next year push it down to under 4 ( so that I will be accepted for qualifying rounds on national tours). And then it's just playing my way to challenger's tour and next to seniors tour. (That's when I am 50 :-)

(For some reason I am a little uncertain about the possibility to make money out of this? I just would have to compete with all ex champs and some active tour players too.)

This does not sound like a good money making plan, but something for a middle age crises.

I know that the goal to become a professional golfer can be reached. I just might have given others a little too big head start. (About 40 years too much).
